 After spending days filming and organizing everything, my production phase has finally come to an end. The next step is postproduction. In this phase I'll be spending the majority of my time editing, adjusting the music and sound. Through the next couple of blogs, I'll be showing you all of the steps and highlighting key moments of my editing phase. The app I'll be using for editing my movie is called 'Filmora' . CUTS AND TRANSITIONS As I began my final phase, the first thing I decided to concentrate on is general editing or adjusting and making the perfect cuts. In the app, I've used the transition option, where I can create a lot of crucial jump cuts, the ones I've used the most throughout the whole movie.  The reason I've used a lot of jump cuts is that I wanted to make the story movie quicker and for action to take place faster so that the viewers feel the tension building up and are prepared that every scene is going to escalate gradually.  SOUND The sound was very hard to achieve, especially the part where I had to edit background talking. I tried making it quieter, but it, unfortunately, didn't work out as much as I hoped it would. The sound throughout the whole film is background talking, with the mix of background bar music. I  didn't want to add music tracks that wouldn't suit the theme just so I can cover the sound of the movie.  So I covered most of the sound by foleys. Like walking, drink pouring and cigar-puffing that made background noise less noticeable. The pictures above are the foleys I've used for footsteps and fridge closing. In the particular scenes where the viewer feels the  tension, the tense sound is added to make the scene build up gradually.

  The picture above shows the bar scene and the lighting setup. As we can see more light is focused on the main character sitting at the bar. However, the bartender who is irrelevant in the scene is in the dark with his face hardly visible to the viewer.  Moreover, in this picture we can see the lighting on female character, which shows us how she is more important in this scene. Chiaroscuro is visible in almost every scene, and it enormously helped me achieve character’s importance. In the house scenes I decided not to play with the lighting, so I just left the lights on to indicate to the viewer that now at the time that the character is in the house it is dark outside, late in the night .

 Details are everything, not only in movies but in the game world too. Details that include the setting and the entire mise-en-scene are crucial to give the viewer the background story and information about the particular character. Minor details can add more information about a character, on top of their dialogue and behavior throughout the whole movie. MOVIE EXAMPLE Now, for a better understanding of how details can affect the scene and the viewer see the example below.  This is how this character is introduced at the beginning of the movie 'The Royale Tenenbaums 2' which without narration the character is shown with tennis equipment and awards behind him. Without watching the movie any further we can conclude that this character is a young tennis star that is probably known in the tennis world among players his age, because of many trophies that he has earned, shown in the background.  2. PROPS Props were crucial in every scene of the movie. All the way from drinks to the smallest details, like candles on the bar table. In this post,  I'll lead you through my prop list and set design that in this case includes lighting and colour combinations. For two of my characters, Zara and Tom, smoking was important, because that complemented Zara's and Tom's characters. None of the actors are smokers in real life, so I decided to make 'fake cigarettes' based on actors' needs. I filled cigarette filters with dried parsley that is more or less healthy and has the same burning effect as real cigarettes.  I've finally begun the production phase of my project. So, to make sure all of my actors have memorised their scripts, I've organised a rehearsal day. However, before the rehearsal day, all of my actors had a read-through where all of us would sit around the table and slowly read through it to make sure that everyone understood what their role in the movie is. After that, the final rehearsal day came where all of us tried and acted the script out.  In this blog, I'll be leading you through the whole production process that I went through to finally achieve and film the final product. 1. COSTUME DESIGN I've designed and prepared all of the costumes for my actors a week before filming, to make sure they can try them out on rehearsal day. I've decided to analyse something different this week. Since most of my time I've spent analysing extracts from a TV show or a movie; today I've decided to dive into foreign waters and try and analyse a music video. The video I’ll be analysing is ‘This Is America’ from Childish Gambino. This is a great piece to analyse, not just because of the great cinematography, but the hidden symbols of America's history of violence and  symbolism that connotes discrimination and racial intolerance. I’ve divided this piece into 5 parts that I consider the most significant. 1. The first gunshot on the chair We are introduced to Childish Gambino in the first shot through camera track on the dolly creating a full shot of our character.  I decided for both of my CCR-s to be podcasts. The first one is going to be a podcast with a director and the other one is going to be a podcast with a cast member.  In each of these 2 questions is going to be answered. In a podcast with a cast member, questions 1 and 2 are going to be answered and in a podcast with a director, 3 and 4 are going to be answered.
