Boundless- Final Product

After adjusting the sound and lighting, cutting and editing the scenes, this is my final product. In the end, it lasts for 2 min and 10 sec which I think is more than enough for this movie to accept.

Boundless- First Edit

I've put my film project on YouTube and Facebook, as a way of distributing my movie on multiple media platforms. Since my project is not finished yet, I've decided to share my 6-minute project, and how it turned out before I cut it to 2-minutes. In the beginning, I had a problem with this, because I was scared that if I cut my project from 6 to 2 minutes, the story is going to lose its meaning. First I considered just cutting the last four minutes but I needed certain elements to build the story. So I will spend the next week or so cutting whatever I can so that the story makes sense as a film opening and meets the required time limit

Credits In Project

Since my project's task is to do a film opening, this means that in 2 minutes of my movie the credits have to be put up. In almost every movie, credits are always put in the beginning, so I decided to take that note and put it in my film opening.  This is the list of credits: Starring- Mia Bozic, Tomas Arizti, Lovro Berkovic, Ana Hanzek, Hrvoje  Casting -Mia Bozic, Romana Peljkovic Sound/Music coordinator- Jan Humski Editing-Mia Bozic Production Design-Tomas Arizti, Mia Bozic Executive producer- Jan Humski Written and directed- Mia Bozic 2nd camera assistant- Jan Humski

Film Production Logo

In terms of my film production logo, I've decided to make something new and innovative. For my production company, I wanted it to be a production and a distribution company. For this type of action/thriller, I imagine a larger company would produce and distribute this film.  For example, I've downloaded a picture of a falling stickman and in Canva I added all necessary changes of font and title of the company. The picture above is a draft how what is this supposed to look like before I animate it. So, this is the process of how I planned my logo. Primarily, I had the idea of having a stickman falling on the ground, shaking the ground, and as he hits the ground it says 'Spasm Production Company'. The picture below is the font and design of the letters and the whole layout of the production logo. Now it has to get animated and add more effects so that the logo represents the idea of the company that produces only crime, thriller and psychological action movies. This is h...

Creative Critical Reflection

For my creative-critical reflection, I've decided to experiment a bit. I decided to answer the first two questions in a form of an interview with a director and one member (actor) from the cast. And next two questions I would answer in a form of a podcast interview with a director. For the podcast interview, I wanted to make intro music, which is going to make it more realistic.  So, I decided to use this intro music:  Intro Music  (click on the link) And the last thing I need to do is record this with my teacher as an interviewer and me as a director, connect two of the recordings and insert the picture of the main picture of the podcast. This is how it turned out: The name of the podcast would be Lights, Camera, Chit-chat! ( As the picture above shows). This would be a profile picture of both of the podcasts.

Postproduction Of My Movie Project- Cuts

After spending days filming and organizing everything, my production phase has finally come to an end. The next step is postproduction. In this phase I'll be spending the majority of my time editing, adjusting the music and sound. Through the next couple of blogs, I'll be showing you all of the steps and highlighting key moments of my editing phase. The app I'll be using for editing my movie is called 'Filmora' . CUTS AND TRANSITIONS As I began my final phase, the first thing I decided to concentrate on is general editing or adjusting and making the perfect cuts. In the app, I've used the transition option, where I can create a lot of crucial jump cuts, the ones I've used the most throughout the whole movie.  The reason I've used a lot of jump cuts is that I wanted to make the story movie quicker and for action to take place faster so that the viewers feel the tension building up and are prepared that every scene is going to escalate gradually. The pic...

Postproduction Of My Film Project- Sound

SOUND The sound was very hard to achieve, especially the part where I had to edit background talking. I tried making it quieter, but it, unfortunately, didn't work out as much as I hoped it would. The sound throughout the whole film is background talking, with the mix of background bar music. I  didn't want to add music tracks that wouldn't suit the theme just so I can cover the sound of the movie.  So I covered most of the sound by foleys. Like walking, drink pouring and cigar-puffing that made background noise less noticeable. The pictures above are the foleys I've used for footsteps and fridge closing. In the particular scenes where the viewer feels the  tension, the tense sound is added to make the scene build up gradually.

Lighting

The picture above shows the bar scene and the lighting setup. As we can see more light is focused on the main character sitting at the bar. However, the bartender who is irrelevant in the scene is in the dark with his face hardly visible to the viewer.  Moreover, in this picture we can see the lighting on female character, which shows us how she is more important in this scene. Chiaroscuro is visible in almost every scene, and it enormously helped me achieve character’s importance. In the house scenes I decided not to play with the lighting, so I just left the lights on to indicate to the viewer that now at the time that the character is in the house it is dark outside, late in the night .

Why Are Details In Movies Important?

Details are everything, not only in movies but in the game world too. Details that include the setting and the entire mise-en-scene are crucial to give the viewer the background story and information about the particular character. Minor details can add more information about a character, on top of their dialogue and behavior throughout the whole movie. MOVIE EXAMPLE Now, for a better understanding of how details can affect the scene and the viewer see the example below.  This is how this character is introduced at the beginning of the movie 'The Royale Tenenbaums 2' which without narration the character is shown with tennis equipment and awards behind him. Without watching the movie any further we can conclude that this character is a young tennis star that is probably known in the tennis world among players his age, because of many trophies that he has earned, shown in the background. MY PROJECT EXAMPLE Ring Furthermore, I've introduced this example to show how minor det...

Production Of My Film Project- Part 2

 2. PROPS Props were crucial in every scene of the movie. All the way from drinks to the smallest details, like candles on the bar table. In this post,  I'll lead you through my prop list and set design that in this case includes lighting and colour combinations. For two of my characters, Zara and Tom, smoking was important, because that complemented Zara's and Tom's characters. None of the actors are smokers in real life, so I decided to make 'fake cigarettes' based on actors' needs. I filled cigarette filters with dried parsley that is more or less healthy and has the same burning effect as real cigarettes. Here's the video tutorial that I've followed:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFyN43HEC4s&t=45s The drinks that each of my characters drank were fake. For example, the beer, that Harry drank, was apple juice that was in a beer bottle. This made the character look reckless and manly. Zara drank Gin tonic, which was mineral water with ice in it. ...

Production Of My Film Project- Part 1

I've finally begun the production phase of my project. So, to make sure all of my actors have memorised their scripts, I've organised a rehearsal day. However, before the rehearsal day, all of my actors had a read-through where all of us would sit around the table and slowly read through it to make sure that everyone understood what their role in the movie is. After that, the final rehearsal day came where all of us tried and acted the script out.  In this blog, I'll be leading you through the whole production process that I went through to finally achieve and film the final product. 1. COSTUME DESIGN I've designed and prepared all of the costumes for my actors a week before filming, to make sure they can try them out on rehearsal day. If I would film a longer movie, the role I would be in is a Costume Designer. But, since I haven't designed and made any of the costumes by hand, I can consider myself a makeup and costume director. Below are the costumes for each o...

Analysis Of a Music Video

I've decided to analyse something different this week. Since most of my time I've spent analysing extracts from a TV show or a movie; today I've decided to dive into foreign waters and try and analyse a music video. The video I’ll be analysing is ‘This Is America’ from Childish Gambino. This is a great piece to analyse, not just because of the great cinematography, but the hidden symbols of America's history of violence and  symbolism that connotes discrimination and racial intolerance. I’ve divided this piece into 5 parts that I consider the most significant. 1. The first gunshot on the chair We are introduced to Childish Gambino in the first shot through camera track on the dolly creating a full shot of our character. The part when he’s dancing towards a Black character on the chair whose head is covered with the white cloth, so his face can’t be visible; he shoots the guy and hands over the gun to the side character.  This suggests how Gambino is shirtless and it ind...

Preparation For CCR Podcast

I decided for both of my CCR-s to be podcasts. The first one is going to be a podcast with a director and the other one is going to be a podcast with a cast member.  In each of these 2 questions is going to be answered. In a podcast with a cast member, questions 1 and 2 are going to be answered and in a podcast with a director, 3 and 4 are going to be answered. For the interview with a director, I made a script for my teacher, who is a host of the episode, and I clearly made bullet points for myself to elaborate on each of them to answer a question correctly.  PODCAST WITH A DIRECTOR The picture below is a script for a podcast with a director, however, just the teacher’s script, director’s bullet point answers are on the separate paper.   PODCAST WITH A CAST MEMBER This podcast I decided to make with a cast member or a male actor that portrayed Tom Booth, the main character, in the movie. In this podcast, I decided to be a host, so I was interviewing the actor and a...

The Script

Preproduction of My Film Project- Script

The last part of my preproduction phase is a script and a storyboard. I wanted to make the story interesting and intriguing to the viewers, so I made a decision to spice up my character's lines in the film. The script: Boundless script The app that I've used for my scriptwriting is called 'Celtx'. This app has a variety of functions and makes your screenwriting format believable and better for your actors to read and know what to do. Below is what my display looked like while writing my script. As you can see we have a special font and display of each one of the lines, it depends is it an action, a new character or a transition.  What I've learned is if there's a change of location in the movie script, this is shown with the blue horizontal line describing INT. or EXT. of the location. In my case, I've used the interior of the bar in the late afternoon (what part of the day is it filmed in). The order that it goes in is INT/EXT-PLACE-TIME. Furthermore, the ...

Storyboard

The storyboard was crucial for this film. Putting all of the camera movements and characters actions together made my camerawork easier. This has helped me visualise where my camera should be placed during that scene or where my actors should be when filming. I separated each scene in the camera movement and action of each character. I tried to sketch my drawings as best as I could. I used the application Boords to create my storyboard and have included screenshots of each frame below. I selected pictures that are similar to what my scene is supposed to look like. I will also leave my log in details if you would like to access the storyboard in the app: https://app.boords.com/storyboards/yzpyvp-boundless   Email address: mbmimika04@gmail.com Password: Mia2020!!
